Tranquil Gathering Happens at Düren Lake, Political AspectAbsent
During the recent Nibirii Festival at the Dürener Badesee from August 22 to 24, 2025, the Düren Police carried out targeted checks on taxis and rental cars to ensure the safety of festival attendees on their way home.
The checks, supported by the Main Customs Office in Aachen and the Dürener Road Traffic Authority, resulted in a series of findings. One rental car was immediately taken off the road due to significant defects in the tires, rendering it unsafe for road traffic. These defects were discovered during the first check of the rental car.
The Düren Police did not specify the outcome of the checks on taxis, but it was revealed that the checks resulted in 11 administrative offense reports, six warnings under the Passenger Transport Act, and two criminal proceedings by the customs authorities for fraud.
The customs authorities are also investigating potential fraud cases, including a driver found to be working for a rental car company without proper insurance. The Düren Police did not provide details about this case.
Out of the 29 registered incidents, more than half were noise disturbances. Other incident causes included a theft and an assault.
Despite these incidents, the Düren Police view the Nibirii Festival as generally smooth. They draw a positive conclusion, stating that the festival was peaceful, and the accompanying checks significantly increased the safety of the attendees.
