Transferred after seven years: The Gerard Depardieu case now under jurisdiction of Paris Criminal Court

After seven long years, French actor GΓ©rard Depardieu will finally face a criminal court in Paris for charges of sexual assault. The case, which was initially reported in 2018, stems from allegations made by actress Charlotte Arnoux.

In August 2018, Arnoux accused Depardieu, who was a friend of her father, of raping her twice in his Paris home. The public prosecutor's office initiated investigations following her accusation. However, the initial investigation did not lead to a trial. In 2020, Arnoux filed a new complaint, and the case has been sent to court.

The trial, which is expected to bring clarity to the allegations made by Arnoux, could mark a significant development in the ongoing series of allegations against Depardieu. If found guilty, Depardieu could face up to 20 years in prison.

The case may have far-reaching implications for Depardieu's career, given the numerous allegations he has faced. In 2023, 13 women, including actresses, extras, and makeup artists, accused Depardieu of inappropriate behavior. In May 2025, a Paris court found Depardieu guilty of harassing colleagues during the filming of "Green Shutters" and sentenced him to 18 months in prison, suspended.

Depardieu denies the allegations of sexual assault, claiming the relationship was consensual. The trial follows Depardieu's conviction for harassing colleagues during the filming of "Green Shutters" in 2025.

The trial comes seven years after the initial complaint was filed. It is not mentioned that Depardieu was released from custody after being accused of rape, as this fact was previously reported. The trial is set to commence in the near future, with the public eagerly awaiting the outcome.
