In a significant move for South Africa's mining sector, Transnet SOC Ltd and Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining have concluded a 10-year Manganese Export Capacity Allocation Agreement. This partnership aims to unlock opportunities for economic development and industrial growth for South Africa.

The agreement secures long-term logistics capacity for Tshipi, one of South Africa's significant manganese producers. Located in the mineral-rich Kalahari Manganese field near Hotazel in the Northern Cape, Tshipi Borwa Mine, operated by Tshipi é Ntle, remains on a stable logistics platform that supports its growth ambitions, thanks to this long-term agreement with Transnet.

Tshipi has grown into one of the largest manganese exporters from South Africa since the start of commercial production in 2012. The agreement enables Tshipi to continue meeting rising global demand for manganese, a key ingredient in steel production.

The partnership between Transnet and Tshipi reflects a shared vision to secure South Africa's long-term position in the manganese supply chain. The agreement provides Tshipi with long-term certainty on rail and port allocation, ensuring consistent delivery to international customers.

He emphasizes that this agreement is a testament to the company's commitment to efficient, low-cost production and its reputation as a significant contributor to South Africa's export earnings, employment opportunities, and socio-economic development.

Ms Michelle Phillips, Transnet Group Chief Executive, emphasizes the value of aligning logistics and mining strategies to secure sustainable export flows. She emphasizes that this partnership strengthens confidence in South Africa's ability to serve global markets.

The agreement between Transnet and Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining will facilitate consistent delivery to international customers, thereby supporting Tshipi's growth and its employees, shareholders, and host communities.
