Cycling elites reunite for Germany's premier world-class stage race, the Deutschland Tour, following the Tour de France. Notably, Florian Lipowitz, who astonishingly placed third in this year's Tour de France, is among the participants.

Germany's Premier Cycling Event, the Deutschland Tour, Returns

The Deutschland Tour, Germany's only stage race at world level, is set to captivate audiences once again, with live broadcasts scheduled across various platforms from August 20 to 28, 2022.

The journey commences at Zeche Zollverein in Essen on August 20, and the first stage will be broadcast live on Das Erste and ARD Mediathek, starting at 2:10 PM on August 21. For this stage, Florian Nass, Rick Zabel, and Andreas Kürten will commentate for ARD and its Mediathek, with Michael Antwerpes as the moderator. ZDF will provide coverage, with Florian Zschiedrich moderating and Marcel Kittel as co-commentator.

As the race heads south to Arnsberg in the Sauerland on August 22 (ZDF broadcast), and then connects Arnsberg with Kassel on August 23 (ARD broadcast), viewers can look forward to exciting race sections in varied landscapes, offering spectacular images and emotional moments.

The prologue of the tournament will be broadcast live on ZDF, and the final stage is from Halle an der Saale to Magdeburg on August 28 (ZDF broadcast).

Moritz Cassalette and Steffen Gaa will be on-site tour reporters for ARD radio, while Denise Schindler will provide expert analysis on the "sportstudio live" broadcasts of the Deutschland Tour on ZDF. The popular Tourfunk podcast during the Deutschland Tour will be hosted by Moritz Cassalette.

Photographs of the event will be taken by Maik Floeder, and the Saarländischer Rundfunk is responsible for ARD's television, radio, online, and social media coverage of the event. Martin Grasmuck, the director of Saarländischer Rundfunk, expresses anticipation for the upcoming Deutschland Tour.

Among the starters is Florian Lipowitz, who finished third in this year's Tour de France and won the white jersey for the best young rider.
