Triumphant moments unfolded at the Iffezheim racing circuit, filled with raw emotions

In a poignant and historic moment at the Iffezheim racetrack, Quest the Moon, owned by the late Hans-Gerd Wernicke, won the 2,000-meter race with a convincing victory. The race, worth 55,000 Euro, marked the tenth win for the beloved horse in its career.

Rene Piechulek, the jockey, steered Quest the Moon to the finish line, securing the 70th Sparkassen Finanzgruppe Prize for the team. Piechulek's partner, Sarah Steinberg, who trains Quest the Moon in Munich, was also present at the racetrack.

Following the race, both Piechulek and Steinberg looked up to the sky, a gesture that hinted at the emotional significance of the victory. It was Wernicke's favourite horse, and the duo had gained their independence from their longtime employer this year.

Hans-Gerd Wernicke, who passed away at the age of 94, owned the horses under the name Stall Salzburg. Before Steinberg and Piechulek took over, Wernicke remained a horse owner until his death.

Andrasch Starke finished the race on Arnis Master, but was behind Quest the Moon. Petit Marin secured third place in the race. Despite the competition, it was clear that the day belonged to Quest the Moon and its dedicated team.

Steinberg, who trains the horse in Munich, expressed her emotions after the race, acknowledging the significance of the victory in the context of Wernicke's legacy. Quest the Moon, a symbol of Wernicke's passion for horse racing, continues to race under the name Stall Salzburg.

As the dust settles on the racetrack, the memory of Hans-Gerd Wernicke and his favourite horse, Quest the Moon, remain etched in the minds of the racing community. The victory serves as a testament to their enduring partnership and the legacy they have left behind.
