Trump Falsified Information 71 Times During a Single Hour at MSNBC Town Hall
The Huffington Post recently reported on the lack of fact-checking in the media's coverage of Donald Trump's presidential campaign. The publication's investigation focused on a specific town hall event hosted by CNN, during which Donald Trump made numerous false, misleading, or questionable claims.
To ensure accuracy, the Huffington Post assigned a team of six journalists to fact-check a 12,000-word transcript of the town hall event. The review of the transcript took hours to complete, as the team meticulously analysed approximately 71 separate instances where Trump made an inaccurate, misleading, or deeply questionable claim.
The investigation found that on average, there was one falsehood every 169 words in the transcript, or 1.16 falsehoods every minute. A list of all 71 instances can be found here.
Critics argue that the press corps allows Donald Trump to float along in a perpetual state of unreality due to a perceived lack of fact-checking. This investigation by the Huffington Post sheds light on the importance of fact-checking and the need for the media to hold public figures accountable for their statements.
The article can be found on Matthew McIntosh's website, with McIntosh serving as the administrator. The town hall event in question lasted for an hour, including commercial breaks. The Huffington Post's diligent work in fact-checking the event highlights the need for continued scrutiny and accuracy in political reporting.
