A year has passed since the tragic death of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old Turkish-American activist, who was shot dead by Israeli forces during a protest against Israeli settlements near Nablus in the occupied West Bank.

The Foreign Ministry of Türkiye vowed to pursue accountability for Eygi's death, calling it a "heinous crime" that disregards the lives of innocent civilians. They remember Eygi "with mercy and respect" and consider her killing a clear indicator of violations of international law and human rights.

Eygi's family, friends, and witnesses reject the Israeli military's account of her death, describing it as a deliberate attack on a peaceful protester. They question the military's suggestion that Eygi was "highly likely hit indirectly and unintentionally" during a response to protesters allegedly throwing rocks. Instead, they claim that Eygi was targeted by an Israeli sniper, as suggested by video footage and eyewitnesses.

The Israeli military's preliminary findings do not align with the accounts of witnesses and family regarding Eygi's death. Turkish authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Eygi's family and witnesses are calling for an independent investigation into her death by Washington. They urge the US authorities to open an investigation, preferably by themselves, as the shooting occurred in the occupied West Bank. However, neither Israeli nor US authorities have made significant advances in the investigation.

On the first anniversary of Eygi's death, the Foreign Ministry of Türkiye commemorated her memory and reiterated their call for justice. The family continues to demand an independent investigation, hoping for answers and closure. As the investigation continues, the world watches and hopes for accountability in this tragic case.
