The Nemrut Crater Lake, a natural wonder nestled in the eastern province of Bitlis, Turkey, has temporarily closed its doors to visitors. This decision, effective from September 1 to September 15, comes in response to a series of bear attacks and disruptions to the bears' natural feeding habits.

The predatory bears inhabiting the Nemrut Caldera, a volcanic crater lake situated at an altitude of 2,250 meters, have been exhibiting aggressive behaviour towards visitors. This change in behaviour is believed to be a result of visitors feeding the wild bears, under the guise of kindness, which has severely disrupted their natural feeding patterns.

Nemrut Crater Lake, Turkey's largest volcanic crater lake, attracts thousands of tourists every year due to its breathtaking scenery and pristine landscape. However, the recent incidents have raised concerns about the safety of both visitors and the bears.

The closure is being overseen by the Nature Conservation Center at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey. During this period, efforts will be made to rehabilitate the animals' disrupted feeding patterns and ensure the safety of all involved.

Visitors are reminded that the bears at the Nemrut Crater Lake are wild animals and should not be approached or fed. The Bitlis Governor's Office issued a statement regarding the bear attacks and the disruption of bears' natural feeding habits due to visitor interactions.

The site, which boasts hot and cold lakes, an ice cave, steam vents, and diverse bird species, will reopen once the situation is deemed safe for all. Until then, the temporary closure is in place to prevent any loss of life or property.

It is crucial for all visitors to respect the natural habitats of wild animals and follow safety guidelines when exploring such stunning natural wonders. Let us hope for a swift resolution to this situation and the reopening of the Nemrut Crater Lake soon.
