In the peaceful town of Höxter, two separate car accidents occurred over the Christmas period, both involving drivers under the influence of alcohol.

On Christmas Eve at approximately 7:30 PM, a 47-year-old man from Bad Lippspringe was driving his Toyota Auris on the L828 from Warburg towards Bad Driburg. The man, who was driving without a valid driver's license, collided with a traffic sign near the exit for Willebadessen / Bahnhofstraße. He sustained minor injuries, and the accident caused approximately 5,000 euros in damage to his vehicle, rendering it undrivable.

The authorities urge all road users to increase their caution and responsibility following these incidents. On the second day of Christmas at approximately 4:10 AM, another accident occurred on the B239 near the abbey involving an Opel Vectra. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Steinheim, was under the influence of alcohol and did not have a driver's license. He was found near the Sommersell exit and sustained minor injuries. The accident caused approximately 8,000 euros in damage to the Opel Vectra, making it undrivable and necessitating a tow.

Emergency services, including drones, were deployed to get an overview and find any possible injuries in the second accident. The driver admitted to being behind the wheel and blood samples were taken for further investigation.

Both accidents occurred due to the drivers being under the influence of alcohol. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against both the drivers and the vehicle's owners. The driver's license was seized from the driver in the second accident. Two blood samples were taken from the driver in the first accident.

The driver of the Opel Vectra on the second Christmas Day was not publicly disclosed. The authorities warn about the severe consequences of drinking and driving, emphasising the importance of responsible behaviour on the roads.
