Two individuals are currently in police custody, accused of unlicensed driving across the 25th of April Bridge.
The Public Security Police (PSP) have launched an operation to boost road safety on the 25th of April Bridge, a popular tourist spot in the country. The operation, which began at 5:00 PM and will continue until 9:00 PM, comes as a response to the high volume of vehicles returning with national tourists.
Other authorities involved in strengthening surveillance on the bridge include customs authorities (Zollbehörde) and motorway operators. These entities oversee vehicle and passenger controls, toll compliance, and monitor traffic using automated camera systems.
Subintendent Sérgio Soares emphasized the importance of the operation, stating that it is crucial for enhancing road safety. The main objectives of the operation are to support drivers and raise awareness of irregular behaviours on the road.
During the operation, several traffic offenses have been reported. One offense was issued for vehicle characteristic alteration, and another for lack of documents. Three offenses were issued for lack of civil liability insurance, while seven were issued for lack of periodic inspection. Five offenses were issued for lack of child retention systems, and two were issued for overloading.
As of the 7:00 PM balance, two arrests have been made for driving without a valid license. Practices targeted for inspection include driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous maneuvers, verification of civil liability insurance, mandatory periodic inspection, and speeding.
The increased surveillance on the 25th of April Bridge is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of all road users as the country welcomes back its tourists. The operation on the bridge is specifically focused on increasing road safety due to the high volume of vehicles caused by the return of national tourists.
