U.S. Authorizes $329 Million Deal to Supply Patriot Defense Systems and Satellite Technology to Ukraine
The United States has taken a significant step in its ongoing aid to Ukraine, approving the sale of the Patriot Air Defense System and Starlink satellite communication services for a combined total of $1.3 billion.
The Patriot package, valued at an estimated $1.154.1 billion, includes classified and unclassified spare parts, technical support, software and updates, system modifications, test equipment, communication equipment, integration services, repair, training, technical assistance, and related logistics support. The primary contractors for the deal will be RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin.
However, it's important to note that the sale does not include any training or logistical support, communication equipment, software updates, system modifications, or integration services. These omissions are likely to be addressed separately in future arrangements.
In addition to the Patriot system, the U.S. State Department has approved the sale of 3,350 long-range ERAM air-launched missiles to Ukraine for a total of $825 million. The primary contractor for this missile deal has not been specified.
The sale of these missiles is subject to Congressional review and final approval.
In another development, the State Department has also approved the sale of Starlink satellite communication services and related equipment to Ukraine for $150 million. The primary contractor for the Starlink deal will be Starlink Services.
The sale of these services is part of a broader effort to bolster Ukraine's resilience in the face of Russian aggression.
Approximately five U.S. government representatives and fifteen contractor representatives will deploy to U.S. European Command to support training and participate in periodic meetings.
It's worth mentioning that the Ukrainian government plans to purchase Patriot equipment and services for an estimated $179.1 million. The U.S. State Department had previously approved the sale of the Patriot Air Defense System equipment and support to Ukraine for $329 million. The additional $825 million for the missiles represents an expansion of the previously approved aid.
The primary contractors for the implementation of the sale of Patriot Air Defense System equipment and support, as well as Starlink satellite communication services and equipment, to Ukraine for a total of $329 million are the U.S. defense companies involved in the production and support of the Patriot system and SpaceX for the Starlink services. The Patriot system is a U.S.-manufactured missile defense system, and SpaceX, a private American aerospace manufacturer, provides the Starlink satellite internet services. Specific company names were not explicitly detailed in the search results, but typically involve Raytheon Technologies for Patriot systems and SpaceX for Starlink.
