U.S. Rally Participant DirtFish Conducts Chat with Morizo Regarding Hydrogen Power in WRC Events

In an exciting turn of events, Toyota recently conducted a demonstration run of its groundbreaking hydrogen-powered engine car, the GR Yaris H2, during the ninth round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Belgium. The demonstration, which took place on public roads, marked a significant milestone as it was the first time a hydrogen-engine car had run on a public road.

The video footage captured the moment, showing Toyota President Akio Toyoda, also known as Morizo, and four-time WRC champion Juha Kankkunen behind the wheels of the GR Yaris H2. As the car approached the camera, driver Takamoto Katsuta flashed a wide smile, embodying the excitement surrounding this innovative vehicle.

During the event, Morizo and Kankkunen swapped driving roles on August 20 and August 21. In an interview after the demonstration run on August 21, Morizo was asked about his experience driving the GR Yaris H2 with Kankkunen. The interview, published by DirtFish, a US-based media outlet specializing in rally racing, shed light on Morizo's thoughts on the hydrogen-powered vehicle.

When asked about Toyota's WRC ace driver, Kalle Rovanpera, who has already won five out of nine races this year, Morizo offered an unexpected response. He jokingly suggested a donut spinning contest between himself and Rovanpera, referring to the car donuts made when spinning a car in tight circles. This light-hearted moment added a touch of fun to the otherwise serious discussion about the GR Yaris H2.

In another video published by DirtFish, we get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes antics of the drivers and Morizo. The video, which features interviews with Jari-Matti Latvala, was posted to discuss the scoring of Kalle RovanperΓ€.

This demonstration of the hydrogen-powered GR Yaris H2 is particularly significant for Toyota as they pursue multi-path solutions for a carbon neutral society. The event generated a lot of buzz in the automotive media, with DirtFish posting videos of interviews with those involved. The hydrogen-powered GR Yaris H2 continues to be a topic of interest as Toyota moves forward in its quest for a more sustainable future.
