A serious traffic accident occurred in Karlsruhe on Tuesday afternoon, involving a tanker truck and a tram near Zeutern.
According to the Presidium of the Police in Karlsruhe, the collision took place at an unguarded railway crossing on state road 552. The tanker truck, loaded with several thousand liters of heating oil, collided with the tram, causing a severe fire.
Three people were found dead at the scene of the accident, and the identification of the deceased individuals is ongoing due to the severity of the fire. The driver of the tanker truck was seriously injured and airlifted to a specialized clinic. One person was rescued from the driver's cab of the burned-out tram.
Ten other passengers in the tram suffered minor injuries. The exact number of people in the tram at the time of the collision is still being clarified.
The L 552 at the entrance to Zeutern was closed for accident investigation and recovery work until 03:30. The damage from the accident is estimated to be in the high six-figure range.
