UFC Shanghai's main event leaves Michael Bisping astonished with a surprising finish, causing the crowd to fall silent.
In the main event of UFC Shanghai, Brazilian fighter Johnny Walker shocked the crowd with a thrilling victory over Chinese powerhouse Zhang Mingyang.
Walker, who called for a fight with No.5 ranked light heavyweight Jan Blachowicz after his win, showed his striking prowess from the start. Despite an early onslaught from Zhang, Walker managed to avoid the attack and crack his opponent with a telling leg kick.
Mingyang, who entered the UFC Shanghai main event on a 12-fight first-round finish winning streak, instantly felt the pain in his calf after the kick. He was wobbled, and Walker followed up with several ground and pound strikes after Mingyang retreated.
The Chinese powerhouse put his foot on the gas right at the start of round two, but Walker's superior technique and strategy proved too much for Mingyang. The crowd was left stunned as Mingyang couldn't make it back to his feet, leading to the fight being waved off by referee Marc Goddard.
In the co-main event, Aljamain Sterling outpointed Brian Ortega in a dull five-round contest. Ortega, who struggled with cutting weight in the buildup to the fight, and Sterling contested the fight at a catchweight limit of 153lbs.
Sterling proceeded to call out UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski after his win, while Ortega showed class in defeat, promising to come back stronger.
Elsewhere on the card, Rongzhu won his fight against Austin Hubbard by unanimous decision, Kerim Engizek won his fight by TKO due to ground and pound, and Mohammad Siasarani also secured a win against Oskar Siegert.
Chinese stars Sumudaerji and Taiyilake Nueraji also claimed victories in the UFC Shanghai event.
UFC broadcaster Laura Sanko commented on Walker's victory, while UFC commentator Michael Bisping expressed his surprise at the result. This was Walker's first win against Mingyang, who had previously been undefeated in his UFC career.
The UFC Shanghai event was a night of upsets and exciting fights, with Johnny Walker's victory over Zhang Mingyang being the highlight of the night.
