Ugandans Secure a Silver Victory with Musingu leading the pack in the competition
In the recently concluded Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations football championship, held in Kakamega, Bukedea from Uganda emerged as the new champions. The final match, which took place at Bukhungu Stadium, saw Bukedea take the lead through Shaban Qwimba, but complacency at the back allowed their opponents to score an equalizer. However, Businge Yabil scored the winning goal for Bukedea in the second half, securing their victory and the title of East African champions.
The road to the final was not easy for Bukedea. In the semifinals, they knocked out Butere Boys 1-0, while their rivals, Musingu High School, had to face a setback in the form of a semi-final match against St Joseph Boys Kitale that was marred with crowd trouble. The match was postponed and played in Kisumu the next day, where Musingu exerted their revenge against St Joseph in post-match penalties, winning 4-3 to set a date against Bukedea.
Musingu High School put up a valiant effort in the final, but ultimately finished as runners-up. Kawempe Muslim from Uganda took the third spot, while St Noa Girls from Uganda won the football girls title in the same tournament.
The championship, which was attended by Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi, was not marred by any crowd trouble or postponements, except for the semi-final match between Musingu and St Joseph Boys Kitale. The final was even moved to Moi Stadium in Kisumu after crowd trouble in Kakamega.
Unfortunately, there is no available information about which teams won the silver medals in the Boys' football competitions of the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations in the year 2026. Some teams, such as Nasokol, Kobala Girls, and Madira, did not impress in the football championship held in Kakamega.
The previous reigning champion, Amus College from Uganda, did not manage to defend their title this year. Butere Girls finished fifth in the football championship, while Musingu High School from Kakamega is the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations football boys silver medalist.
The football championship provided an exciting and competitive atmosphere, showcasing the talent and skill of secondary school students from across East Africa. Congratulations to Bukedea on their well-deserved victory!
