Illegal Street Race on German Highways Ends in Crash

On Sunday evening, November 17, 2024, a dramatic incident unfolded on highways 661 and 3 near Offenbach, Germany. A gray Audi R8, registered in the Main-Taunus-Kreis district, disregarded police instructions during an illegal street race.

The KART civilian patrol first noticed the Audi R8 around 22:45, with its exhaust noise drawing attention. The driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, ignored all instructions and continued driving towards the A3 after being inspected near the Buchrain rest area.

The driver recklessly overtook other vehicles and sometimes used the hard shoulder to bypass them, causing dangerous lane changes that put other road users at risk. The police patrol ended the pursuit due to the extremely high speed and potential danger to other road users.

Near the Offenbach intersection, the driver lost control of the Audi R8 and collided sideways with the guardrail. After the accident, the driver continued driving at high speed and evaded the pursuing police patrol. At the Offenbach-South exit, the driver initially took the exit towards B8, but then turned around and continued the risky drive on the A3 towards Würzburg.

The Frankfurt am Main police are now investigating the incident as an illegal motor vehicle race, endangerment of traffic, and hit-and-run. The police are appealing for support from the public.
