Unbeaten KSC continues their winning streak, Fortuna presents their toughest challenge yet

In a closely contested match, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Karlsruher SC battled to a goalless draw at the sold-out Merkur Spiel-Arena on Saturday. The visitors maintained their unbeaten streak in the 2. Bundesliga, while Düsseldorf missed an opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Karlsruher SC.

The hosts started the game on the front foot, with Düsseldorf creating the first significant chances against their opponents. However, they were unable to find the back of the net, setting the tone for the rest of the match.

Karlsruher SC responded with an offensive spell before halftime, but the first half ended scoreless. The second half saw both teams increase their intensity, resulting in an even exchange of opportunities.

Düsseldorf had chances to break the deadlock, with Shinta Appelkamp's header (69') and Anouar El Azzouzi's long-range shot coming close. Unfortunately for the home side, they were unable to convert their chances, and the game remained goalless.

Appelkamp had another chance to put Düsseldorf ahead just two minutes later, but she missed her opportunity, and the match continued without a goal. Hans Christian Bernat made two brilliant saves during the match to keep the scoreline level.

The previous unbeaten streak of Karlsruher SC in the 2. Bundesliga remains intact, as they managed only two away draws in their current run. Düsseldorf has only won one game and drawn one in their last four league games, leaving them trailing Karlsruher SC by four points in the standings.

The game was part of the "Fortuna für alle" initiative, offering free entry to 51,500 spectators. The games for the initiative were fully financed by TARGOBANK, the main and jersey sponsor of Fortuna Düsseldorf and an early supporter of the initiative since the 2023/24 season.

Despite the disappointing result, Düsseldorf can take heart from their improved play in the second half and the chances they created. They will look to bounce back in their next game and close the gap on Karlsruher SC in the standings. The last time Karlsruher SC won against Düsseldorf by the Rhine was in March 2016, so the hosts will be hoping to end that run when the two teams meet again.
