A significant fire that broke out in a storage hall containing 200 tons of bulky waste at the RSAG recycling centre in Troisdorf is partially under control, according to the local fire department.

The fire department, led by OBR Lars GΓΆdel, deployed up to 200 personnel to combat the blaze. Intense smoke development made the situation challenging, but the fire department reported that the fire was under control at midday.

The firefighters used two turntable ladders and ten hoses to pump water into the burning storage hall. However, insufficient water from the public mains necessitated the use of water from the Sieg River.

Despite these challenges, the fire department spokesman stated that the extinguishing measures were having an effect, and the spread of the fire had been stopped. Hotspots were brought out with wheel loaders to be extinguished outside the storage hall.

A wall was removed from the storage hall to access hotspots, and statisticians determined that the structure was not at risk of collapse. However, the fire could not be completely extinguished within the storage hall, and the warning remains in effect, according to the fire department spokesman.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the fire. As a precaution, the fire department advised the population to keep windows and doors closed, turn off air conditioning, and stay informed through warning apps and vehicles driving through the streets.

Due to the fire, the RSAG recycling centre in Troisdorf will remain closed to customers, and waste collection in the right bank district will be temporarily suspended. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
