Uncovered: 69 Migrants Discovered Living in Details Negotiated by Necessity in Cadaval by GNR

In the small town of Cadaval, Portugal, a group of immigrants, aged between 16 and 24, were found working without work contracts during the pear harvest. The GNR's Coastal and Border Control Unit, along with other local and regional authorities, conducted an inspection following a complaint.

The inspection revealed a shocking sight: 69 immigrants, primarily from African countries, were living in camping tents and dealing with their hygienic and sanitary issues in the streets. Out of the 69 identified, 43 are women and 26 are men, with 13 of them being under the age of 18.

The immigrants were reportedly recruited at very low costs, and several offenses were raised during the inspection, including illegal labor recruitment, illegal use of a foreign citizen's activity, and illegal residence in national territory. The owner of the farm was identified for the crime of illegal labor recruitment, but the name of the farm tenant remains undisclosed.

The GNR also found several citizens living in undignified conditions in a warehouse allegedly used as a labor force living quarters. An environmental offense report was drawn up for illegal discharge into a water line. However, no new information was provided about the age, nationality, or work status of these citizens.

It's important to note that no new information was provided about the immigrants' status as vocational students in Portugal. The authorities are yet to release further details about the cost of recruiting the immigrants or the number of minors among them.

This incident underscores the need for stricter regulations and enforcement in the recruitment and employment of immigrants in Portugal. The authorities have promised a thorough investigation and appropriate action against those found guilty of the offenses.
