North Italia Coming to Walnut Creek: Upscale-Casual Italian Restaurant Chains Expands

Walnut Creek is seeing a restaurant building boom, and the latest addition to the city's culinary scene is North Italia. The upscale-casual Italian chain is under construction in the Plaza Escuela shopping center, taking over the former Tilly's space at 1179 Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek.

North Italia is known for its artisanal pizzas, cooked in a gas-fired stone deck oven, and handmade pastas. The restaurant's menu also includes seasonal entrees, an Italian-inspired bar program, and an all-California wine list.

Locals are eagerly awaiting the opening of North Italia, but concerns about adequate parking during Walnut Creek's restaurant boom have been raised. However, North Italia will be located within Walnut Creek's Pedestrian Retail Zone, and parking will be handled through Plaza Escuela's existing garages.

The restaurant's signature offerings include handmade pasta varieties like short-rib radiatori and squid-ink mafaldine. The original timeline suggested a late 2025 opening, but current construction progress indicates a Summer 2026 opening is more likely.

It's important to note that North Italia is not adding new parking spots, and it is unlikely that the restaurant will open by the end of the calendar year.

Other restaurants currently under development in Walnut Creek include Stereo41, Stillwater, The Foundry, and the nearby Original Joes. The city is buzzing with anticipation for these new additions, making it an exciting time for food lovers in the area.
