Unforeseen dampness and gusty winds loom over the upcoming week of the British summer season. Forecast predicts a rainy sequence.

Unsettled Weather Ahead: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected Across the UK

The UK is bracing for a wet and windy weekend, with the Met Office forecasting heavy rain and coastal storms across many regions. The unsettled weather is expected to continue through Sunday and into next week.

On Saturday, the South West of England and Wales are likely to be the hardest hit, with the wettest conditions predicted. The regions will experience prolonged downpours, scattered showers, and strong winds, with the risk of thunder in some areas. The South East of England, while still expected to be dull, will be drier compared to other parts of the country.

Eastern parts of England are expected to see some sunshine early on Saturday, but clouds will move in by lunchtime, giving way to heavy rain in cities like Cardiff. Belfast will experience light rain by late morning.

The final weekend of meteorological summer will see persistent downpours, with some areas receiving more than half a month's worth of rain in just 11 hours on Friday. If confirmed, this summer will be the fifth warmest in UK history, following 2018, 2006, 2003, 2022, and 1976. Remarkably, all of the UK's top five warmest summers have occurred since the year 2000.

Temperatures will be near average during this period. London, for instance, will peak at 21C on Saturday, while Edinburgh could reach 20C, but heavy afternoon rain is likely. Sunny intervals will give way to cloud in London by lunchtime on Saturday.

The forecast also includes the risk of thunder mixed in with the heavy rain, as a frontal system moves in from the west, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the UK later on Saturday. The regions in Northern Scotland will experience cloud and drizzle.

With the persistent rain and strong winds, there is also a risk of coastal gales in the UK on Saturday. It's advised to stay updated on the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions.

As we bid farewell to the meteorological summer, it's clear that the UK is in for a wet and windy weekend. Stay safe and dry!
