Unforeseen events unfold during a power outage at the SLK Clinic
The SLK-Klinikum Gesundbrunnen, located in Heilbronn, Germany, experienced a power outage on Thursday afternoon. However, the clinic confirmed that patients had nothing to worry about during this incident.
The power outage, which lasted for approximately one hour, was due to problems with the power supplier, EnBW. Despite this, the SLK-Klinikum Gesundbrunnen's backup power supplies worked reliably, ensuring that operating rooms, ventilators, and emergency lighting continued to function without interruption.
The clinic has a total of five backup power supplies, known as network replacement power plants. These supplies were able to secure the internal power supply for at least 72 hours (three days) during the emergency. After 72 hours, the aggregates need to be refueled again to maintain the internal power supply.
During the power outage, emergency concepts were immediately implemented at the SLK-Klinikum Gesundbrunnen. Although there was a brief IT disruption in the Central Emergency Department, all operations continued without any interruption.
The clinic spokesperson confirmed that no patients were ever in danger during the power outage. They further emphasised that the backup generators ensured that the clinic could continue to provide essential services to its patients.
The SLK-Klinikum Gesundbrunnen has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its patients, even during unexpected circumstances like power outages. The clinic's robust emergency preparedness measures proved effective in maintaining the clinic's operations during this incident.
