In a significant development, Specialty Steel UK, the third-largest steelworks in the UK, has entered administration. This event is another major blow for the UK's steel sector and broader industrial strategy.

The official receiver, a government appointed liquidator, will take control of the company. This move has far-reaching implications beyond the steel industry, affecting nearly 1,500 workers in Rotherham and Sheffield.

Special managers from consultancy firm Teneo will also be involved in the administration process. The steelworks will be placed under government control, following a winding down petition filed in the High Court.

The chairman of the supervisory board and CEO of Liberty Specialty Steels, Sanjeev Gupta, is also the chairman of Liberty Steel Group, which includes Liberty Specialty Steels. The company is currently undergoing pre-packaged insolvency proceedings to avoid collapse.
