United States reveals agreements sealed with Armenia and Azerbaijan in official documents
The United States has announced a series of collaborative agreements with Azerbaijan and Armenia, aiming to bolster ties in various sectors. The agreements, which include a primary memorandum dubbed the 'Crossroads of Peace Capacity Building Partnership', are expected to last for a year with an additional three-year extension.
The US and Azerbaijan have identified several key areas for cooperation, such as expanding energy investment and regional connectivity infrastructure, strengthening defence and counterterrorism cooperation, and advancing regional economic and trade cooperation. Additionally, the two countries plan to develop Artificial Intelligence partnerships and invest in digital infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the US and Armenia have agreed to focus on enhancing Armenia's border security through training, utilising US government resources, and adopting best practices from the US Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection. The cooperation also includes increasing investment in cyber defence operations, promoting investment to modernise Armenia's infrastructure and border security sector, and exchanging best practices to strengthen cyber security.
The strategic working group formed under these agreements will concentrate on areas such as energy, trade, transit, Artificial Intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The US and Azerbaijan have also established a strategic working group focused on three main areas: regional connectivity, economic investment, and security cooperation.
The US State Department has published the memoranda signed between the US and Armenia, and the US and Azerbaijan. These memoranda, which also include provisions for defence sales and counterterrorism cooperation between the US and Azerbaijan, were the result of a historic summit between US President Donald Trump, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in August.
The agreements between the US and Armenia consist of three separate documents: the primary memorandum, an 'AI and Semiconductor Innovation Partnership', and an 'Energy Security Partnership'. However, the organisation aiming to found a reader-supported non-governmental organisation in the Caucasus to strengthen independent voices is not explicitly named in the provided search results.
