The University City of Marburg is gearing up for a series of important events in September, each commemorating a unique aspect of history and society.

World Peace Day

World Peace Day, also known as "Anti-War Day," will be observed on Monday, September 1. Originally set for August 1, the date was moved after World War II to September 1, marking the start of the war with the German invasion of Poland. The city flag will be hoisted on the town hall to mark the occasion.

World Children's Day

On September 20, the city will once again hoist the city flag on the town hall for World Children's Day. This year's motto is "Children's Rights - Building Blocks for Democracy!". UNICEF Germany and the German Children's Aid Organization are organizing a nationwide participation action for World Children's Day, encouraging children and young people to submit their demands and ideas on children's rights.

Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Flight, Expulsion, and Deportation

On September 21, all public buildings in Marburg will be flagged in memory of the victims of flight, expulsion, and deportation. This memorial day also marks the Day of the Homeland, officially celebrated for the first time on August 6, 1950. The flagging will begin at 7 am and end at dusk.

World Bisexuality Day "Celebrate Bisexuality Day"

September 23 marks World Bisexuality Day, also known as "Celebrate Bisexuality Day." The initiative for this day was taken by three civil rights activists in the USA in 1999 to draw attention to bisexuality as an independent sexual orientation alongside heterosexuality and homosexuality. The Marburg town hall will be flagged from 7 am until dusk on this day.

Residents of Marburg can stay informed about these events and more by signing up for the city's newsletter, which keeps them updated on important news from the town hall and city life.
