Unknown Substance Harms Young Boy in Meckenheim: Criminal Investigators probe incident and seek crucial information

In the heart of Meckenheim, a peaceful market square was turned into a scene of chaos on Saturday evening, when an 8-year-old boy was injured due to contact with an unknown liquid. The exact substance is still being determined, but initial reports from the fire department suggest it may be an acid.

The incident occurred near a parcel station, where an orange, rectangular plastic bottle is believed to have fallen and burst open, releasing the liquid. Witnesses report that the boy was severely injured, particularly in the area of his hands.

The area of the market square where the liquid had leaked was immediately cordoned off by police and fire services, and the boy was swiftly transported to a hospital by helicopter. The area was later cleaned after the bottle was secured, and the fire department took the bottle as evidence.

The Criminal Investigation Department 14 of the Bonn Police is investigating the incident, and they are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the bottle being placed to come forward. Possible witnesses are asked to contact the police under the number 0228 15-0 or by email at [email protected].
