Police Apprehend Suspect in High-Speed Chase Incident

A 21-year-old man from Reinbek, known to the police and not in possession of a valid driver's license, was apprehended by the police following a high-speed chase on August 29th, 2025, in Geesthacht/Müssen, District of Herzogtum Lauenburg.

The incident began when the off-duty police officer, affiliated with the Ratzeburg police department, encountered the suspect at 21:25. The officer recognised the man and his grey Audi and immediately went on duty to follow the Audi. The Audi was pursued on the federal road 5 towards Lauenburg.

During the chase, the man recklessly overtook several other road users, but fortunately, no third parties were harmed. The suspect eventually crashed into a ditch and tried to flee on foot. However, he was eventually arrested by the officers who had been following him.

Indications of possible intoxicant consumption were found before the start of the journey. The Audi was seized on order of the Public Prosecutor's Office Lübeck, and a blood sample was ordered to be taken from the suspect.

Two police officers also sustained minor injuries during the incident. The suspect himself sustained several injuries and was treated in the hospital.

The man now faces charges for various traffic offenses, violations, resistance against, and assault on law enforcement officers. The investigation into the incident continues, and witnesses are being sought. The police are looking for witnesses to the incident and can be contacted at the Geesthacht or Schwarzenbek police stations.

Press inquiries should be directed to the Press Office of the Police Directorate Ratzeburg, specifically Sophie-Marie Jakobi. A joint press release was issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office Lübeck and the Police Directorate Ratzeburg on Friday, September 2nd, 2025.

A patrol car crew placed a Stop-Stick on the road, which deflated the Audi's tires, contributing to its eventual stop. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and help bring the investigation to a close.
