Unmanageable debt poses a grave risk to France's survival, as per the PM's statement in parliament.

In a dramatic turn of events, French Prime Minister François Bayrou delivered a passionate speech in the National Assembly on Monday evening, as his minority government faced a potential vote of no confidence.

The vote, which is expected to occur later on Monday, comes after Bayrou's administration was defeated in a confidence vote earlier in the day, marking a significant challenge to his leadership.

Bayrou's speech was his final chance to win over lawmakers before the vote, and he did not hold back. He stated that France has not had a balanced budget for 51 years, emphasising the urgency of his government's plan to help France escape debt within a few years.

The National Assembly chamber was tense during Bayrou's address, with the opposition parties repeatedly interrupting him with heckles. Despite the interruptions, Bayrou remained composed, even taking a moment to drink water.

In his speech, Bayrou warned MPs that they cannot erase reality and that the opposition's actions could lead to turmoil in France. He accused the opposition from the far right to the hard left of risking "turmoil" in France by attempting to unseat his government.

The opposition parties are working together to unseat Bayrou's minority administration. Jean-Louis Bayrou, the Prime Minister, called the vote he is expected to lose. Bayrou's speech was not without humour, as he made a light-hearted comment about drinking.

Bayrou told MPs they have the power to overthrow his government, urging them to consider the consequences of their actions. His speech was delivered in a tense National Assembly chamber, with the fate of his government hanging in the balance.

As the vote to eject Bayrou's minority administration approaches, the Prime Minister's future remains uncertain. The outcome of the vote could have significant implications for France's political landscape and its economic future.
