Unnamed sources report assassination of previous Ukrainian parliament leader, Andriy Parubiy, in the city of Lviv

In a tragic turn of events, prominent Ukrainian politician Andriy Parubiy was shot and killed in the western city of Lviv on Saturday. The shooting incident occurred in the Frankivskyi district, according to local police reports on Telegram.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the killing, describing it as a "terrible murder." Andriy Parubiy, a key figure in the EuroMaidan Revolution in 2013-2014 and the Orange Revolution in 2004, served as parliamentary speaker from 2016 until 2019 and was Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council secretary in 2014.

During the shooting, the ex-parliament speaker was approached by a man disguised as a courier who shot him eight times. The attacker wore a black helmet with yellow stripes, used an electric bicycle, and hid the weapon in a Glovo delivery bag. The perpetrator allegedly fled the scene by bicycle.

The victim died at the scene, and Andriy Parubiy's family and loved ones were offered condolences by President Zelenskyy. All necessary resources were deployed to find the perpetrator, who was later arrested while trying to hide in the Khmelnytskyi region.

It's important to note that this shooting incident occurred while Russia was launching a massive attack in Ukraine. During his tenure as National Security and Defence Council secretary, Russia occupied the Crimea peninsula. Andriy Parubiy was a proponent of closer ties with the European Union.

Unfortunately, no information is currently available regarding any casualties or injuries related to the Russian attack, the cooperation summit in China or its potential impact on Ukraine, or the potential deployment of European military instructors to Ukraine after a ceasefire.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing tensions in Ukraine and the need for peace and justice. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Andriy Parubiy during this difficult time.
