Unreliable goalkeeper Andre Onana sparked anger in manager Amorim by requesting a fresh contract during Manchester United's pre-season training.

In a series of developments, it appears that Manchester United's goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to join Turkish giants Trabzonspor on a loan deal.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper, who played for the Red Devils last season, has been linked with a move to Turkey for some time now. The negotiations between Onana and Trabzonspor have concluded successfully, with Onana agreeing to a one-year loan for the 2025/26 season.

The loan deal does not include a purchase option and there is no loan fee. Trabzonspor will pay part of Onana's salary, with Manchester United covering the rest. Onana is expected to join the team imminently to replace their departing goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır.

This move comes after a challenging season for Onana at Manchester United. His chances of getting minutes this season have deteriorated further due to the arrival of Senne Lammens, who joined the club from Royal Antwerp for £18.5million.

The past summer saw Onana's position in the starting line-up rocked before the start of pre-season, with manager Ruben Amorim opting for Altay Bayindir in the first three Premier League matches of the season instead of Onana.

Despite this, Manchester United had so far opted against selling Onana during the summer transfer window. However, Onana's representatives have been in contact with Manchester United for clarity about his future. The stance of Onana did not go down well with manager Ruben Amorim.

Interestingly, Onana believed he deserved improved terms due to a 25% cut in wages for not qualifying for the Champions League. This belief may have contributed to his desire for a move away from Old Trafford.

It's worth noting that Onana committed multiple errors during last season, and Manchester United have decided to sign a new goalkeeper following Bayindir's blunders in the Premier League this season.

Manchester United had a difficult season, finishing 15th in the Premier League, their worst campaign in the competition's history. With Onana's departure, it remains to be seen who will take up the goalkeeping duties for the upcoming season.

The Turkish transfer window remains open for Onana to make his final decision. Once the deal is officially announced, Onana will join a long list of high-profile players who have chosen to ply their trade in Turkey.
