The automotive world is abuzz with the latest news from Tesla, as the company has unveiled an upgraded version of the popular Model 3. The new Model 3 offers enhanced performance and a longer range, setting new standards in the electric vehicle market.

Tesla claims that the new Model 3 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in an impressive 5.2 seconds, outpacing the standard rear-wheel drive sedan. This speed boost is attributed to the replacement of the current car's 194kW motor with a more powerful 225kW e-motor.

In addition to the performance upgrade, Tesla has also extended the range of the Model 3. The new Model 3 Performance boasts a CLTC range of 647km, while the upcoming 2026 Model 3 Long Range is claimed to have an even more impressive range of 830km on a single charge.

The new Model 3 Performance is currently only available to Chinese buyers, with the new ultra-long-range Model 3 priced at 269,500 yuan ($A57,400) in China. However, it's likely that both the ultra-long range Model 3 and upgraded Model 3 Performance will be offered in Australia, although no specific pricing details have been provided yet.

It's worth noting that the claimed range for the new Model 3 was recorded on the Chinese CLTC test cycle, which is known to be lenient. The real-world range may vary, and further testing is needed to confirm the actual performance of the new Model 3.

Meanwhile, the European market is also eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new Model 3 Long Range, with the approval for the vehicle expected to be provided by the relevant European vehicle type approval authorities. The price for the vehicle in Germany has not been disclosed, but it's expected to be competitive with other electric vehicles in the market.

The extra range in the new Model 3 Long Range is attributed to Tesla switching to a new 78.4kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery (NMC) supplied by LG. This battery upgrade is expected to provide a significant improvement in the vehicle's range and performance.

Compared to the current Model 3 Long Range in Australia, the new model is cheaper in China. However, no information about the price of the new Model 3 Long Range outside of China has been provided yet.

In other news, the latest Mercedes-Benz CLA has a WLTP range of 792km, expected to out-drive the new Tesla Model 3 on matching lab testing. As the race for longer ranges and faster performance continues, it's an exciting time for the electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for more updates on the new Tesla Model 3 and other electric vehicles.
