Unveiling of DP World ILT20 Preparatory Competition in Kuwait - a significant first
The world of cricket in Kuwait is abuzz with excitement as the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament Kuwait 2025 officially kicked off on September 3rd, under the dazzling floodlights of the Sulaibiya Cricket Ground. The grand unveiling was attended by dignitaries, board members, sponsors, players, officials, and media, marking the beginning of a thrilling month-long tournament.
The event was led by the Kuwait Cricket Board, headed by President Mr. Haider Farman. Team captains Mohammad Aslam, Clinto Anto, Usman Ghani, and Ravija Sandaruwan, representing their teams Boubyan Warriors, Failaika Guardians, Kuwait Falcons, and Pearl Strikers, were also present.
The tournament follows a dynamic round-robin format, with each team competing in double headers, playing a total of six matches. The league stage of the tournament will determine the teams that will compete in the Grand Finale and the playoff for 3rd place. At the conclusion of the league stage, the top two teams will qualify directly for the Grand Finale.
The playoff for 3rd place will decide the final ranking of the bottom two teams. Meanwhile, the Grand Finale will be a spectacle that no cricket fan in Kuwait will want to miss, taking place at the Sulaibiya Cricket Ground under the iconic floodlights. The teams will compete for the championship trophy and a chance to earn selection into all six DP World ILT20 franchises in the UAE in December.
A mega auction is scheduled for October 1st in Dubai to draft six standout players from this development tournament onto the global stage. The event also featured a Cake Cutting Ceremony to honor valued sponsors. Harman Singh Sahni welcomed attendees at the beginning of the ceremony.
The opening ceremony was a grand affair, culminating in the singing of the Kuwait National Anthem. The bottom two teams will contest a playoff to decide 3rd place honors. The Grand Finale is scheduled for September 12th, starting at 6:00 PM.
