Tommy Fleetwood's Long-Awaited PGA Tour Victory Within Reach at St. Jude Championship

Tommy Fleetwood, a seasoned golfer on the PGA Tour, is poised to end his drought of tournament victories after 162 attempts. The St. Jude Championship presents a golden opportunity for the British player, as he currently holds a three-shot lead at the halfway stage of the FedEx Cup event.

Fleetwood's impressive scores of 63 and 64 at TPC Southwind have propelled him to the top of the leaderboard, putting him in the best position to claim his first PGA Tour victory.

However, the 30-year-old's inability to convert close calls into wins is an unusual occurrence for a player of his caliber. In fact, this is the sixth time Fleetwood has finished as runner-up at a PGA Tour event. He had a similar advantage with one round to play at the Travelers Championship but ultimately finished behind Keegan Bradley.

Despite this, the St. Jude Championship could potentially mark the end of Fleetwood's long wait for a PGA Tour victory. If he manages to hold onto his lead, he will join the ranks of other successful golfers who have claimed their maiden win on the PGA Tour.

Meanwhile, another golfer who recently ended a long wait for a PGA Tour victory is Cameron Young. The American claimed his maiden win at the Wyndham Championship a week ago, generating significant interest as it marked the end of a seven-tournament wait for a victory. Young had seven runner-up finishes in 93 previous PGA Tour tournaments before his win.

Before the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Fleetwood had amassed PGA Tour prize money of $31,360,669, making him the only current or former PGA Tour player yet to claim a win despite earning more than $30m on the circuit. If Fleetwood can claim victory at the St. Jude Championship, he will join the likes of Keegan Bradley and Cameron Young in the exclusive club of players who have won on the PGA Tour after earning over $30 million in prize money without a victory.

As the tournament reaches its climax, all eyes will be on Fleetwood as he looks to end his long wait for a PGA Tour victory. Sunday evening at the FedEx St. Jude Championship could mark a historic moment in his career.
