Upcoming 2026 Toyota RAV4 vehicle: Detailed Australian model list revealed for highly anticipated SUV

The automobile market in Australia is set for a shake-up with Toyota's introduction of the sixth-generation RAV4, scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2026. This marks the first time Toyota is offering a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model based on the new RAV4 in Australia.

The new RAV4 range will broaden its appeal in a segment it has consistently dominated in Australia. The line-up includes six grades: GX, GXL, XSE, Edge, Cruiser, and the new flagship GR Sport.

The GR Sport PHEV AWD is the star of the show, equipped with a sixth-generation 2.5-litre hybrid engine, front and rear electric motors, and a 22.7kWh battery, producing a combined 227kW. The XSE PHEV, on the other hand, employs a single-motor front-drive system or dual-motor AWD setup, with outputs of up to 200kW.

All models of the new RAV4 will gain expanded Toyota Safety Sense features, including improved blind-spot monitoring, pre-collision system that now detects bicycles and motorcycles, and lane-trace assist. The XSE, in addition, offers two-tone black roof options and a 10.5-inch interface with enhanced voice control, part of Toyota's Arene-based multimedia system that debuts in the RAV4.

The entry-level GX, mid-tier GXL, and Cruiser will be offered in both 2WD and AWD hybrid forms, producing 143kW. The AWD-only Edge retains its adventure-focused positioning.

Both PHEV variants of the RAV4 include a 1500W inverter to power small appliances. A 12.3-inch digital cluster is standard across the RAV4 range. A three-dimensional panoramic monitor aids manoeuvring, while the new front cross-traffic alert is included in the expanded Toyota Safety Sense features.

The new RAV4 will offer two hybrid powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid for the first time locally. The new multimedia system enables faster processing and over-the-air updates. The colour palette includes Massive Grey, Urban Rock, Feverish Red, Dusty Bronze, and Daintree Green.

Further specifications and pricing will be announced closer to launch. The new RAV4 promises to elevate Toyota's commitment to hybrid technology and safety features, setting a new standard in the Australian market.
