The city of Passau, Germany, has announced the start of the registration process for the upcoming election of the Passau Senior Citizens' Representative. This significant democratic procedure is aimed at advocating for the needs and concerns of senior citizens in the city.
Located in the heart of Passau, the Passau Senior Citizens' Council plays a pivotal role in representing the interests of the city's elderly population. The Council is responsible for the representation, with the Senior Citizens' Representative being a key figure in this role.
The Senior Citizens' Representative, which consists of the Delegated Assembly and the Senior Citizens' Council, is elected from the Delegated Assembly for a term of four years. The Delegated Assembly is composed of representatives from free welfare associations, Passau senior clubs, stationary senior facilities and ambulatory services, as well as 10 interested citizens of the city of Passau.
To be eligible for the Delegated Assembly or the Senior Citizens' Council, a candidate must be a Passau citizen aged 60 or over with their primary residence in the city of Passau. Interested citizens can now register with the city of Passau for the upcoming election, with the registration process having begun on July 28, 2025. The deadline for registration is September 19, 2025.
The Passau Senior Citizens' Representative represents approximately 15,300 Passau residents aged 60 and over. The term of the current Passau Senior Citizens' Representative ends on March 31, 2026.
