Upcoming Leapmotor B05 electric vehicle to make its debut at Munich motor show, according to reports.

Leapmotor, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer backed by Stellantis, is set to debut its new electric hatchback, the B05, at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich in September 2025.

The B05 will be based on the same 'Leap 3.5' platform as the B10 small SUV and the B01 small sedan. The exterior design of the B05 will be inspired by the B10, featuring an aerodynamic silhouette and full-width light bars front and rear.

Inside, the B05 is expected to have a 14.6-inch touchscreen multimedia system. Details about the specifications of the powertrain and battery packs are yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to operate on an 800V electrical architecture, similar to the B10. A range-extender (REEV) powertrain option may become available for the B05 in the future, as it was recently confirmed for the B10.

Leapmotor's international activities are conducted by Leapmotor International, in which Stellantis owns a 21% share and a 51% share respectively. The B05 will join Leapmotor's global line-up of seven vehicles, ranging from tiny city cars to large seven-seat SUVs.

The B05 will be approximately the size of a Volkswagen Golf and will be a rival to the Cupra Born and MG4. The Leapmotor A05, a lower-riding sibling of the B05, is expected to be a closer rival to the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora.

In New Zealand, the most affordable Leapmotor currently available is the C10 Style REEV at $49,990 before on-road costs, but it is currently available with a $5000 cash-back offer, taking this down to $44,990. In the UK, the Leapmotor starts at £36,500, or NZ$84,150. At this stage, pricing for the B05 hasn't been confirmed, but it could be under £30,000 (NZ$69,000) in the UK.

Distribution in New Zealand for Leapmotor vehicles is handled by Auto Distributors New Zealand (ADNZ), part of the Armstrong Motor Group.
