Tragedy in Kleinberg: Home Invasion Leaves One Man Dead

In a shocking incident that has left the community of Kleinberg in mourning, a fatal shooting occurred on Aug. 31 near Andreeta Drive and Barons Street. The victim, Abdul Aleem Farooqi, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to witnesses and family members, at least three male suspects forced their way into Farooqi's home through a rear door. A 911 call was made from inside the house, and the sequence of events was corroborated by family members' statements.

Farooqi, a well-respected member of the community, was a business owner, operating a furnace and duct cleaning company in Mississauga. His brother, Naeem, described him as a "hero" who died protecting his family. Premier Doug Ford expressed his condolences, stating that the suspects shot Farooqi "right in front of his kids."

The suspects took phones belonging to three different family members and may have targeted the house for a robbery, with the motive believed to be monetary gain. However, they fled the scene in a dark-coloured SUV before police arrived. Two of the phones were later found discarded nearby.

The suspects have not been formally linked to another incident that occurred less than 90 minutes apart and less than one kilometre away. Despite extensive search efforts, the identities of the three men suspected to be involved in the apartment break-in and shooting in Vaughan remain unknown.

Farooqi lived in the home with his wife and four children, ranging in age from four to 17. A firearm was pointed at his children during the incident. Police are urging citizens not to take matters into their own hands during a home invasion, but to call 911 and take measures to keep themselves and their loved ones safe until police arrive.

Naeem Farooqi stated that Aleem died a hero, saving his family. The community mourns the loss of a beloved neighbour and friend, and the search for justice continues.
