In the heart of Vladivostok, Russia, an unusual celebration took place on the recently renovated Sports Harbor Embankment. The city was commemorating Victory Day over militaristic Japan and the end of World War II, but with a twist. The event was part of the "Living Heritage" project, a joint initiative by MAER media holding and the NABU (Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union), supported by the sponsor REWE through the NABU Climate Fund.

The main focus of the "Living Heritage" project was the "Memory Avenue" action, which aimed to foster awareness and engagement for ecological conservation and natural heritage. The NABU Climate Fund, established in 2022 with a commitment of 25 million euros until 2027, supported this endeavour.

Konstantin Shestakov, the Mayor of Vladivostok, and Anton Voloลกko, Chairman of the Primorsky Regional Legislative Assembly, were among the dignitaries who participated in the event. Konstantin Maior, General Director and the project ideologist of MAER media holding, was also present.

Eighty trees of various species, including Mongolian oak, Manchurian ash, Manchurian apple, Manchurian apricot, Amur lilac, and maple, were planted along the embankment. Each tree carries symbolic meanings, representing life, memory, and the continuity of generations.

The trees chosen for planting were selected for their hardiness and excellent adaptability, ensuring their longevity and the success of the project. The greening work on the Sports Harbor Embankment will continue, symbolising the ongoing commitment to ecological conservation.

The event was organised by MAER media holding, and the full program of Victory Day celebrations in Vladivostok, including tours, concerts, and exhibitions, can be found on the Vladivostok administration portal. Events dedicated to Victory Day are also taking place in all municipalities of Primorsky Krai.

This unique approach to celebrating Victory Day not only honours the past but also looks towards a greener and more sustainable future for Vladivostok and its residents. The "Living Heritage" project serves as a reminder that every action, no matter how small, can contribute to the preservation and enhancement of our natural world.
