Mark your calendars for May 10, 2025, as Detmold prepares to host its annual Urban Development Day. This year's event, themed around "Lively Places. Strong Communities.", promises a day filled with engaging activities, informative tours, and exciting discoveries.

The city portal offers a 360-degree tour on the Urban Development Day page, allowing virtual and interactive exploration of ongoing projects. For those who prefer a more hands-on experience, there are guided tours available. Cornelia Müller-Hisje will lead a tour through the historic old town, providing background information about buildings that have been renovated with funding.

One such renovation model, the "Detmold Model", offers a solution for creating affordable, modern housing. This model, originally developed in Detmold, has been successfully implemented in other North Rhine-Westphalian cities and communities. Mayor Frank Hilker plans to realise more housing projects based on this model in the future, and has expressed his intention to contact the new Federal Minister of Housing, Verena Hubertz, to promote such projects more strongly.

The organization "Klimaschutzagentur Lippe" announced during last year's Urban Development Day that they will realise new housing projects based on the "Detmold Model" in 2025. They also reached out to the new Federal Minister for Housing, Verena Hubertz, seeking stronger support for such projects.

Urban development, heritage conservation, and development prospects will be discussed during the evening exchange with experts, which will be held at Hotel Wertschätzer in Krumme Straße from 6 pm.

A construction site tour on the Schlossplatz will focus on the sustainable development of a central urban space. Meanwhile, children and families can participate in a scavenger hunt through the old town between 2 pm and 5 pm. The hunt concludes at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz, where games and fun activities are offered by "Heimspiel OWL" of the Detmold Sports Association. A small snack will be provided at the end of the walk.

Interestingly, a neighbourhood in Detmold is currently undergoing transition, but specific details about this transition are not yet available.
