Urban Progression Day: Focus on City Expansion and Modernization

Mayor Frank Hilker of Detmold invites all residents and visitors to join the city's Urban Development Day on May 10, 2025. Under the nationwide motto "Lively Places. Strong Communities.", the event aims to foster dialogue and participation in urban development.

The day's activities will kick off at 2 pm, with a varied program running until 8 pm. Highlights include city tours, construction site visits, and interactive activities for children. A neighbourhood walk through the former British settlement will take place at 3 pm, starting at Siegfriedstraße / corner Adenauerstraße.

Mayor Hilker emphasises the importance of urban development, stating, "Urban development lives from dialogue and participation." He also plans to realise more such projects in the future.

One such project is the successful implementation of housing cooperatives based on the "Detmold Model". These cooperatives have been adopted in other North Rhine-Westphalian cities and communities, offering a solution for creating affordable, modern housing. Interested parties can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the historic old town with Cornelia Müller-Hisje, learning about buildings that have been renovated with funding.

The Urban Development Day will conclude with a small snack. Additionally, children and families can participate in a children's rally through the old town, with exciting stations and a cool surprise at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz. The team from "Heimspiel OWL" of the Detmold Sports Association will offer games and fun at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz.

The new Federal Minister for Housing, Verena Hubertz, plans to promote the realization of further housing projects similar to the "Detmold Model" with Detmold's mayor Frank Hilker. Hubertz announced the "building turbo" to speed up planning processes and enable municipalities to build faster and more affordably. Mayor Hilker intends to contact the new Minister to promote such housing projects more strongly.

A construction site tour on the Schlossplatz will focus on sustainable development of a central urban space. Both tours will start at 2 pm and 3:30 pm.
