US Open Rounds Continue with Exciting Upsets and Close Matches

The US Open is heating up as the rounds progress, with several exciting matches and unexpected outcomes. Let's take a look at some of the highlights from the ongoing tournament.

In the men's singles, Italian 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti advanced to the last 16 after his opponent, Flavio Cobolli, retired due to an arm injury. Musetti, a potential quarter-final opponent for Sinner, will next play the unseeded Jaume Munar. Jannik Sinner, the world No 1, won a four-set match against Denis Shapovalov at the US Open on Saturday. Sinner is trying to become the first man to retain the title in New York since Roger Federer in 2008.

On the women's side, Coco Gauff, a home favourite, sailed into the women's last 16 of the US Open. Gauff's win on Arthur Ashe Stadium was her most polished display of the tournament. She expressed relief and enjoyment after her win, stating that she needed tough moments to move forward. Gauff has reached the last 16 in New York for the fourth year in a row. In the next round, Gauff will face Naomi Osaka, who won her match against Daria Kasatkina in three sets with a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

There were also some historical moments at the US Open. Hong Kong's Coleman Wong had a brave run at the US Open, but lost a five-set match to 15th seed Andrey Rublev. Wong became the first player from Hong Kong ever to win a Grand Slam singles match in the Open era. Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi, the world No 435, reached the fourth round of a major for the first time since 2002.

In other matches, Iga Swiatek, the world number two, will open the night session on Arthur Ashe against Russian 29th seed Anna Kalinskaya. Karolina Muchova won an all-Czech encounter with Linda Noskova, coming from a set down to win 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-2. Marta Kostyuk, the Ukrainian 27th seed, overcame France's Diane Parry in three sets.

As the tournament progresses, the competition is heating up, and fans are eagerly waiting to see who will emerge as the champions in the men's and women's singles. Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime will play under the lights on Louis Armstrong Stadium later on Saturday. The night session will also feature a match between Iga Swiatek and Anna Kalinskaya, as well as Coco Gauff's highly anticipated match against Naomi Osaka.
