US President Trump issues threats of fresh sanctions towards Russia, in retaliation for the recent intensive aerial attacks they carried out in Ukraine.

In a week marked by escalating conflict, Ukraine has been the tragic focus of multiple aerial attacks. The latest assault on Kyiv, the country's capital, has left at least four people dead and more than two dozen wounded, according to emergency services.

The attack, which targeted high-rise buildings in the city, also caused significant damage to government offices, setting them ablaze. Heartbreakingly, a pregnant woman was among those wounded, delivering a premature baby shortly after the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for a "strong" US response to the attack, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "testing the world." Zelensky also discussed the attack with French President Emmanuel Macron, who has pledged to help Ukraine strengthen its defense.

Macron has strongly condemned Russia's actions, calling them "locking itself ever deeper into the logic of war and terror." European leaders, including Macron, British Labour Leader Keir Starmer, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, have all denounced the attacks on Ukraine.

Von der Leyen accused the Kremlin of "mocking diplomacy," while Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, suggested that Washington might impose tariffs on countries buying Russian oil in response to the attacks.

The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and forced millions to flee their homes, making it Europe's bloodiest since World War II. In response, at least 26 countries have declared their readiness to deploy troops on Ukrainian soil to secure peace or a ceasefire following the war. These countries aim to station troops in defined areas away from frontline zones to prevent new aggression and support Ukraine's security after the conflict.

However, Putin has warned that any Western troops in Ukraine would be unacceptable and legitimate targets. Russia has continued to claim territory in Ukraine, now occupying around 20% of the country.

Despite efforts by leaders such as Trump and Macron to find a solution, the conflict shows no signs of abating. Trump has threatened to impose more sanctions on Russia following the large-scale aerial attack, while Putin remains defiant.

In the midst of this turmoil, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko stated that while they will rebuild the damaged buildings, they cannot bring back the lives lost in the attack. The world watches on, hopeful for a peaceful resolution to this devastating conflict.
