Valencia eyeing a move for goalkeeper David Ospina, while midfielder Gary Medel edges closer to joining Inter Milan
Valencia and Newcastle Eyeing Summer Transfers
Valencia and Newcastle United are making moves to bolster their squads for the upcoming season, with both clubs showing interest in several high-profile players.
In goal, Valencia is looking to challenge Diego Alves with former Colombian international David Ospina. The Spanish club is confident of winning the race for Ospina's signature, who spent the last six years at Nice and impressed at the 2014 World Cup. Valencia officials were reportedly impressed by Ospina's performances during the tournament.
Meanwhile, Newcastle has shown interest in Rio Ave winger Andre Filipe Alves Monteiro, better known as Ukra. The Portuguese winger has made a total of 51 league appearances for Rio Ave, scoring 4 goals and producing 9 assists. Ukra spent his early career at Porto and has had loan spells with Varzim, Olhanense, Braga, and Rio Ave before making a permanent switch to Vila do Conde.
Newcastle has already made several signings this season, including Jack Colback, Ayoze Perez, Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella, Emmanuel Riviere, and Daryl Janmaat. The club is hoping to add Ukra to that list, but could face competition from other clubs, including Napoli and Olympique de Marseille.
Elsewhere, Inter Milan has proposed a season-long loan for Gary Medel with an option to buy for €7m. The Chilean midfielder's agent Fernando Felicevich will meet with Cardiff City chiefs today to discuss the proposal. Medel, who has spent the last three seasons at Cardiff, is reportedly set to sign a contract worth €2 million per season with Inter.
However, Marcelo Bielsa attempted to persuade Medel to join Marseille, but the midfielder decided to join Inter Milan instead. For more news about football transfers and rumours, visit the Transfer News section.
