Vehicles: Refrain from leaving children and pets in extreme heat conditions

The Fire Department Hannover has issued a cautionary statement, urging residents to exercise extreme care when leaving children and pets in parked vehicles during periods of high temperatures. With the city expecting temperatures to reach up to 35°C today, the risk of heatstroke or permanent damage to organs or the nervous system in both children and dogs becomes significantly higher.

The Fire Department Hannover is the official body responsible for providing updates on the city's safety measures during extreme heat. Raphael Schrank is a contact person at the department, and further questions can be directed to him or the Fire Department's Press Office at [email protected].

The department's official website, www.feuerwehr-hannover.de, is another valuable resource for staying informed about safety measures and updates during high temperatures.

The Fire Department Hannover's telephone number is 0511 912-1293, and in case of an emergency involving a child or dog in a hot vehicle, the public is advised to call the fire department and emergency services on 112 immediately.

It's essential to remember that temperatures inside vehicles can rise rapidly and significantly in direct sunlight, even when outside temperatures are over 20 degrees. This rapid heating can lead to life-threatening conditions within just 15 minutes.

The Fire Department Hannover urges everyone to take these warnings seriously and to prioritise the safety of children and pets during hot weather. Let's all work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for everyone in Hannover.

Please note that at the time of writing, the current head of the fire command in Hannover and details about measures against high summer temperatures were not available. We will update this information as soon as it becomes available.
