Sweden's Senior-Friendly Nightlife Sensation: DJ Gloria

DJ Gloria, a 66-year-old disc jockey, has become a beloved figure in Stockholm's nightlife scene, catering to crowds over the age of 50. Her unique sets, filled with a mix of classic and contemporary tunes, have earned her a devoted following.

Born as Madelein Mansson, DJ Gloria's journey began after the loss of her husband when she was 62. Seeking a new passion, she decided to take up DJing. Initially, she struggled, but with practice and determination, she improved and found her rhythm.

Her friend, who was also a DJ, gave her three private lessons. To hone her skills further, she visited other clubs to observe how DJs worked. After 16 years, she has become a seasoned professional, known for her energy and love for music.

Every set begins with "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, a fitting anthem for a woman who has overcome life's challenges. Her playlist includes a variety of songs, from ABBA's "Mamma Mia" to Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger", and even AC/DC's "Thunderstruck". Towards the end of the evening, she might play Beyonce's version of "At Last", Elvis Presley songs, or other crowd-pleasers.

ID cards are required for entry to DJ Gloria's special gigs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. Eva Jakobson, a 63-year-old partygoer, described DJ Gloria as fantastic, while Louise, another attendee, stated that she is the best DJ they have ever had in Sweden.

DJ Gloria is not just a disc jockey; she is an advocate for seniors. She promotes women at her parties, making them feel strong and empowered. In addition to her DJing, she is also writing a book about exercise for seniors called 'Good Enough: A Little But Often'. The person currently writing a book titled "Gut genug: Ein bisschen oft" about training for seniors is Lisa Fittko, not DJ Gloria.

Despite her success, DJ Gloria's gigs typically start around 6pm and end around 11pm, ensuring that her audience can enjoy a full night of music without worrying about getting home too late. Her dedication to her craft and her commitment to her audience have made her a beloved figure in Stockholm's nightlife scene.
