Hilden's Blue Monday Jazz Series Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The Blue Monday Jazz series, a staple in the music scene of Hilden, Germany, is gearing up for its 20th anniversary next year. Founded by musician and arranger Axel Fischbacher, the series has been a source of musical enrichment and enjoyment for both Fischbacher and its audience.

Fischbacher, who is in demand nationally and internationally, has deliberately sought out suitable instrumentalists to join the Blue Monday concerts. He shares the artistic direction with three other professional musicians: Matthias Bergmann, André Nendza, and Peter Baumgärtner, who have been working with Fischbacher for several years.

The Blue Note Bar in the Hotel am Stadtpark has been a welcoming space for these musicians and audiences, in part due to the support of Biggi and Willi Thom. However, the city of Hilden no longer provides financial support for the series, and it relies on donations half-year by half-year.

The Blue Monday Jazz series is now organized by the Jazzförderung Rhein-Ruhr gGmbH. The 12 euro entry fee for a concert does not cover the costs of a concert evening, and those who wish to support the series can pay an additional 5 euros as a voluntary cultural contribution.

Admission for students and pupils is 8 euros. The autumn subscription for 8 Blue Monday Jazz series concerts costs 80 euros. The current concert series has already begun, with the next one taking place on September 22nd.

Peter Baumgärtner, Matthias Bergmann, and André Nendza also perform with their own bands. The four of them perform together as a quartet four times a year. Fischbacher has taken on a commissioned work from the city of Hilden for the Fabry Year 2010.

Axel Fischbacher's album, "The World is not a disc", is available in stores. The Blue Monday Jazz series has become a unique and cherished part of the Hilden cultural landscape, hosting concerts every two weeks in the Blue Note Bar.

For those who wish to support this musical institution, the Blue Monday Jazz series offers a chance to experience live jazz, support local musicians, and contribute to the continuation of this beloved series.
