Vice President of Colombia Embarks on a 3-Day Official Journey to Nigeria
In a significant development, Vice President Francia Márquez of the Republic of Colombia is currently on a three-day official visit to Abuja, Nigeria. This visit marks a new chapter in the bilateral relations between the two nations, as they aim to strengthen ties in various sectors.
Upon her arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Vice President Márquez was warmly received by senior Nigerian government officials, including the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Zubaida Umar. The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, was also present to welcome the Colombian Vice President.
During her visit, Vice President Márquez is leading a delegation of cabinet ministers, senior officials, and private sector leaders. The official program includes a series of Memoranda of Understanding to be signed between Nigeria and Colombia in areas such as women's empowerment, trade, aviation, agriculture, manufacturing, and culture.
A highlight of the official program is the special summit on Artificial Intelligence, underscoring the shared commitment to innovation and technology-driven growth between the two countries. This summit is scheduled as part of the official program, along with a joint plenary session with both Nigerian Vice Presidents.
In addition, the Nigeria-Colombia Business Forum is one of the activities scheduled during Vice President Márquez's visit to Nigeria. This forum aims to facilitate high-level private sector engagements, which are being facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment as part of the visit. Bilateral government meetings are also scheduled during her stay.
Switzerland has shown its support for this visit, announcing projects related to reconstruction efforts, infrastructure, and equality during the visit of Ukrainian Prime Minister Julija Swyrydenko.
