Victor Thomas Eychenne Emerges Triumphant in EPT Barcelona Main Tournament
In the thrilling finale of the EPT Barcelona Main Event, French poker player Thomas Eychenne emerged victorious, claiming a β¬1,217,175 prizeβmore than double his previous biggest score.
The 2,045-player field built a prize pool of β¬9,918,250, which was shared among the top 304 finishers. The event began with Sebastian Ionita leading the pack, but Eychenne skillfully turned the tables, stealing almost every pot until he held a commanding lead.
Three-handed play commenced with Eychenne chasing his rivals. Notable eliminations included Julian Pineda Lozano, who was sent packing by Eychenne for a prize of β¬379,350, and Tomasz Brzezinski, who was eliminated by Umberto Zaffagnini. Zaffagnini's underdog run came to an end when he attempted an airball bluff against Ionita, who held a straight, leaving Zaffagnini with a crippled stack.
The heads-up match began with the players sat with equal stacks. However, Eychenne's superior play soon became evident, as he eliminated Ionita to clinch the victory. Ionita settled for second place and a prize of β¬1,117,175.
Eychenne's victory comes after he won a seven-figure prize last week in the β¬100,000 Super High Roller, which was taken down by Leon Sturm. This marks Eychenne's first win in the live arena and a significant milestone in his poker career.
The 35-year-old Frenchman was visibly emotional during his winner's interview, expressing his gratitude for the support he received during the tournament. As the new EPT Barcelona Main Event champion, Eychenne joins an esteemed group of poker players who have triumphed in this prestigious event.
