Victory in Crusade Against Tax Deception

The Ministry of Finance in Germany has announced a successful year in tax collection, with over 96 billion euros collected in 2024. Income tax made up the largest share of this total.

President of the Finance Administration, Bernd Kraft, praised the employees of the finance offices for their outstanding job and significant increase in case clearance. The automated processing rate for income tax returns has risen to almost 16 percent, a testament to the efficiency of the finance offices.

The "Special Unit for Monitoring Tax Collection" achieved its greatest success in Berlin, collecting a total of 150 million euros in taxes. Meanwhile, the Special Unit for Tax Oversight (SUTO) achieved a record result of 38.8 million euros, targeting tax evasion.

Finance State Secretary, Gisela Splett, stated that the tax administration is a well-functioning part of the public administration, with faster processing times and a consistent approach to combating tax evasion. The processing times for income tax returns have decreased to an average of 50 days, a decrease from 63 days in 2023.

Bernd Kraft mentioned that the finance offices' employees achieved this alongside additional intensified work, such as the 'Tax Makes School' project. Nearly 4.7 million income tax returns were processed, a new record.
