The Vietnam Customs Office celebrated its 80th anniversary on a high note, with the office making significant strides in financial oversight, administrative reform, and modernisation.

Over the years, the office has evolved from an initial tax collection and anti-smuggling force into a modern state management agency with deep integration. An impressive 99% of customs procedures are now conducted electronically, demonstrating the office's commitment to digital transformation.

The office's leadership in administrative procedure reforms has been evident, consistently ranking first in the Administrative Reform Index. This achievement is a testament to the office's dedication to streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency.

Customs Director General Nguyen Van Tho reviewed the important historical milestones, key achievements, and outstanding contributions during the past 80 years of Vietnam Customs Office development. The office has made important contributions to economic growth, helping control inflation, stabilising the macroeconomy, and protecting national security and border sovereignty.

Customs has maintained effective revenue collection for import and export goods, while showing proactiveness and responsibility in combating smuggling, trade fraud, and the illegal transport of goods, currency, and drugs across borders.

At a ceremony in Hanoi, Finance Minister Nguyen Van Thang spoke, but the available information does not specify which individuals he honoured. Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi awarded the PM's Certificate of Merit to 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in the customs office. Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang presented the First-Class Victory Medal to Vietnam Customs officials.

The office was also awarded a First-Class Victory Medal by the Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang, in recognition of its exceptional work.

Looking forward, the finance minister has emphasised the need for accelerated development and completion of customs legislation as a breakthrough step for development. The minister also highlighted the importance of building a well-trained, modern, resilient, honest, and professional customs force.

The office is now focused on implementing digital customs and smart customs based on modern technology, with the goal of automating all professional procedures. The office is also working on forecasting, advising, and implementing solutions to meet revenue targets, contributing to macroeconomic stability.

The Vietnam Customs Office follows key resolutions of the Party Central Committee for development in science, technology, private economy, legal system, and international integration. The office's commitment to these resolutions will undoubtedly continue to drive its success in the years to come.
